Iron Lung Movie Poster
The objective of this project was to select a film and create a custom typeface from scratch, then use that typeface to design a movie poster. Quiet Rapture is the custom typface created for the main title of the moive Iron Lung, made by YouTuber and now film maker Marck Fishbach, most famously known as Markiplier.
This project was created using Illustrator and Procreate.
Process work
For the sketching process, I explored with a few different brushes on Procreate. Once I found brushes that gave me the texture and shape I wanted, I moved on to sketches of the upper and lower casings and some symbols in that style.
Finished type
I then went into Adobe Illustrator to turn those sketches into vectors. I kept the general shape to later on add the texture I originally planned.
Illustration
Instead of using a texture overlay on the type, I decided to carry through the texture concept into the illustration of the monster eye. I did this to not overwhelm the viewer with too many textures, but enough to capture the eye.

DIgital roughs
In Illustrator, I experimented with different layouts and poster sizes, using just the vector type, and later added the illustration of the eye to see which layout worked best.
Finished Poster
Going with version 1, that’s 16” × 20.” I made adjustments like adding the credits at the bottom of the poster and playing with the placement of the release date. The main type creates enough area to play with the illustration within, with the main focus being the eye. Creating the illusion that the eye is looking directly at you in a predator-like manner, to embody the unsettling feeling of the movie.
